Procedure

Filled out Application Forms can be attached and sent by email to contact@insurancelawassociation.org, or sent by post at the ILAI Office address. All applications for membership shall be subject to approval by the Governing Body.

The 3 tiers available under the Corporate Membership are:

  • Silver: Any 3 Employees
  • Gold: Any 5 Employees
  • Platinum: Any 8 Employees

Eligibility
Individual Membership:
  • Any person with legal qualification who in the opinion of the Governing Body is sufficiently connected with, or interested in insurance.
  • Any person who possesses the requisite qualifications (degree/diploma) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Actuaries of India, Insurance Brokers Association of India, National Insurance Academy or any other such body as the Governing Body may think fit.
  • The Governing Body may also at its discretion admit to membership other persons involved in insurance of any kind.
  • Honorary Membership: The Governing Body may invite any person whose experience and knowledge is considered to be of value (criteria based on the individuals contribution and professional excellence in the field of Insurance Law) to become an honorary member. There is no restriction on the number of Honorary Membership.
Individual Membership:
  • Insurers, insurance associations, insurance brokers, surveyors and loss adjusters, corporate agents, solicitors and any other corporate body, organisation or partnership which, in the opinion of the Governing Body, has sufficient connection with or interest in insurance. Where any such organization (referred to as a ‘Corporate Member’) is admitted to membership it shall be entitled to one vote.

Note: In the case of a Corporate Member, the application shall be in the name of the corporate body, organisation or partnership and the corporate body is to nominate a representative. The Corporate Member shall be entitled to appoint in writing a person to represent it at any meeting of the Association and such person shall vote on behalf of the Corporate Member and shall be eligible for election to the Governing Body.

Cessation of Membership
  • A person shall cease be a member of the Society by written resignation, death, disqualification, insolvency or liquidation or for non-attending without taking leave for absence, three consecutive meetings of the General Body as the case may be.
  • Any member who in the opinion of the Governing Body has acted in a manner prejudicial to the interests of the Association may be expelled from membership or suspended from membership.
  • A member will be deemed to be disqualified, if in the view of the other members, expressed by a resolution of the majority of the members that such person is of unsound mind, or has worked against the aims and objects of the Society or has committed an act, which makes it undesirable to have him as member or his membership ceases to be in the interest of the Society.
